Excellence in Education: Angie Brewer First Responder of the Year: Sgt. Steve Hollis
Angie Brewer is an exemplary leader whose 29-year dedication to education has transformed McDonald County High School. She has spent the past six years as principal of her alma mater, following roles as classroom teacher and coach, assistant principal( in Texas), Noel Elementary principal, and Assis-tant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Each stop has sharpened her commitment to fostering student success.
Under her leadership, students are not just prepared for graduation— they’ re launched toward meaning and purpose beyond it. She forges partner-ships with business, community, and civic groups to offer real-world learning, like student-run enterprises, that equip them with skills, confidence, and vision. Her work strengthens not only the school but the entire McDonald County community.
“ Because Angie Brewergrew up in McDonald County, she un-derstands our students in a unique way. Dr. Eric Findley, Superintendent of McDonald County Schools, had this to say,“ Every choice she makes is about creating opportunities for them to succeed, and we are fortunate to have her leading at
McDonald County High School.”
Angie and her husband, Matt, reside in Noel with her mother, Lucy, and their two sons: Jackson( University of Arkansas at Little Rock) and Sam( Ouachita Baptist University, also serving with the Army Reserves). This family connection underscores her deep roots and personal investment in this region.
John Newby of the McDonald County Chamber, attests:“ In all my years, I’ ve rarely seen an educator as willing to work with Chamber and community as Angie. From community events to the student-run Chamber coffee shop that trains students on how to run a business, she is the first to jump in... She is a true asset.”
In the heart of Anderson, where community spirit runs deep, Sgt. Steve Hollis exemplifies what it means to serve others. Since joining the Anderson Police Department in 2020, Hollis has transformed from a dedicated officer into an irreplaceable pillar of the force. What sets Sergeant Hollis apart isn’ t just his badge— it’ s his unwavering commitment that extends beyond a single uniform. As a volunteer firefighter with the Pineville Fire District, he demonstrates that true service knows no boundaries and extends far beyond the Boundaries of just Anderson. Whether responding to a police call or racing to fight fires, Hollis answers the call without hesitation.
Mayor Rusty Anderson speaks with evident pride about Sergeant Hollis’ s exceptional service.“ In the Anderson Police Department, Sgt. Hollis consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty to serve our community,” the mayor notes.“ His dedication to the citizens of Anderson is amazing, and he ensures that every shift is covered— even if it means stepping in himself.” This willingness to step up when needed showcases Hollis’ s character. His leadership, commitment, and work ethic don’ t just make him an outstanding officer— they set the standard for the entire department, inspiring colleagues to match his dedication to protecting and serving Anderson’ s citizens.
